The Sports Pavilion Vavá Duarte in the city of Praia received on 25 May the opening of the XII Edition of Infantile Games under the slogan "Doing sports, we learn and grow up". The Infantile Games are performed annually from April to June, culminating the closing date with the commemoration of the International Day of the African Child, 16 June.
The Infantile Games are promoted annually by SOS Children’s Villages Cape Verde and the Ministry Of Education and Sports with the participation of several kindergartens, including the ones from SOS Children’s Villages Assomada and São Domingos.
In her short intervention the National Family Base-Care and Education Coordinator, Ms Cláudia Santos, said that: “the way the kindergartens have been involved in this process surpassed our expectation. We have children everywhere here with their respective caregivers, playing, dancing, having fun, and these were our goal: the brotherhood among the different kindergartens in the country”.
That is to say the Infantile Games started in 2000 in SOS Children’s Village of Assomada, which aims were to promote the exchange in the preschool system in the town of Assomada. In 2002 it was spread to more municipalities on the island of Santiago. In 2008, the Infantile Game has been performed throughout the whole country, thanks to the development of partnership between SOS Children’s Villages and the Ministry Of Education and Sports.
